Reading Ambassadors
Fri 26 Apr 2024This week, our Year 6 Reading Ambassadors opened up the grotto at lunchtimes, and also set up a reading space for children to share a book. It was delightful to see so many children listening to a story and to see our Year 6s enjoy their responsibility. The grotto will be open every lunch as a quiet space for readers, and our Reading Ambassadors will be out on the field!

Year 5 Residential to Bowles Activity Centre
Fri 26 Apr 2024This week our Year 5 children have had a fabulous experience. They visited the Bowles Activity Centre this week for their first ever residential trip. They have enjoyed so many new things including dry slope skiing, the leap of faith, raft building and rock climbing.
Their behaviour has been excellent and children showed the Offham values throughout the trip as well as conquering fears and beating personal targets. Bowles promised to ensure the children were going to be exhausted and exhilarated and we can confirm this happened!!
Thank you to all the staff that accompanied the children on this trip and ensured that everyone had a fantastic time !

Eco Council News
Fri 19 Apr 2024After our meeting this week, Eco Council are keen to get everybody involved in our effort to be more eco-friendly.
We would like to remind you of some of the recycling opportunities that we provide in school.
*We have our clothes recycling in the large red bin just outside of our school gates that we get donations of money towards school resources for once we reach the target weight.
*We also have a battery recycling point in the school office which we invite children and their families to bring in old batteries to be recycled safely.
The children on Eco Council are really keen to grow a wide range of wild flowers, fruit and vegetables in the school grounds.
We are asking for donations of:
-wild flower seeds
-young strawberry plants
-chitted potatoes
-bean seeds
We will update you shortly on the progress of our plants.
Thank you everyone !

The 'Easter Experience'
Fri 29 Mar 2024Children in Years 5 and 6 visited St Michael's Church in Offham on Tuesday to take part in the 'Easter Experience' and learn about what Christians believe at Easter.
Volunteers spoke to children at different 'stations' which enabled the children to interactively learn about the Easter story. These 'stations' included Palm Sunday, the Garden of Gethsemane, the washing of the Disciple's feet, the Last Supper and the Resurrection. Children were very thoughtful and asked reflective and mature questions.
Thank you to Reverend Green and his volunteers for hosting us. Children demonstrated a good understanding of Christian religious beliefs and symbolism. We were all impressed with the excellent behaviour of all the children. Well done Orange and Yellow Class.

Silver Stories
Fri 22 Mar 2024This week we were delighted to start our participation in the ‘Silver Stories’ scheme with our Reading Ambassadors. Silver Stories in a national charity that enables communication across generations where by school age children read on the phone weekly to an elderly person to combat loneliness.
The idea is that the ‘Silver listener’ is read to by the ‘Silver reader.’ Children thoroughly enjoyed their first session and we are looking forward to continuing this community involvement.

Sports for Champions
Fri 15 Mar 2024We welcomed this year's athlete Chris Tawiah for an inspiring whole school assembly explaining his career to date. The children listened and engaged with some interesting facts. As well as some great demonstrations of basketball skills too from Chris and some keen volunteers.
The morning continued with each class completing their circuit challenges including spotty dogs, push ups, star jumps and mountain climbers. I would like to thank all the parents, family and friends who sponsored the children for this event.
Well done to the Sports Council members for their help across the morning. Encouraging the school to work hard and complete their challenges. You were all fantastic role models!
