Silver Stories
Fri 22 Mar 2024This week we were delighted to start our participation in the ‘Silver Stories’ scheme with our Reading Ambassadors. Silver Stories in a national charity that enables communication across generations where by school age children read on the phone weekly to an elderly person to combat loneliness.
The idea is that the ‘Silver listener’ is read to by the ‘Silver reader.’ Children thoroughly enjoyed their first session and we are looking forward to continuing this community involvement.

Sports for Champions
Fri 15 Mar 2024We welcomed this year's athlete Chris Tawiah for an inspiring whole school assembly explaining his career to date. The children listened and engaged with some interesting facts. As well as some great demonstrations of basketball skills too from Chris and some keen volunteers.
The morning continued with each class completing their circuit challenges including spotty dogs, push ups, star jumps and mountain climbers. I would like to thank all the parents, family and friends who sponsored the children for this event.
Well done to the Sports Council members for their help across the morning. Encouraging the school to work hard and complete their challenges. You were all fantastic role models!

World Book Day
Fri 08 Mar 2024We all travelled into the wonderful world of reading and celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 7th March. As we were all dressed up as different characters, we all got into role (even staff!) and had a fantastic time reading and discussing our favourite books and characters. It was lovely to see such a range of characters such as Mr Strong from the Mr Men, Mickey Mouse, Hermione Granger, Verucca Salt and Willy Wonka !
We even had a visit from a famous storyteller called John Row who enchanted the children with tales from all over the world. Our fantastic PTFA reading challenge was also launched this week and children are very excited about it and already taking part in the challenges.

PTFA Reading Challenge
Fri 01 Mar 2024The PTFA are so excited to announce the OFFHAM READING CHALLENGE! We have worked so hard with teachers and local businesses to create 20 exciting challenges all around our love of reading. Please do ask friends and family for sponsors - you might like to sponsor your child for the total number of challenges completed, the number of pages read... The choices are open! The reading ambassadors will collect running totals of the number of challenges each class has read, and there will be a prize for the class that completes the most challenges!
We are currently raising money for a new projector and for class sets of books for reading lessons. These vital investments will make a huge difference to the school. We are incredibly grateful for any donations.
The Book Fair is also visiting from the 13th March and we will have the opportunity for you to purchase and donate one of the class books if you wish!

Diversity Role Models
Fri 01 Mar 2024We had a visit this week from Diversity Role Models which is a UK Charity that supports schools nationally in understanding diversity, prejudice and stereotyping.
Children learnt about accepting differences as well as understanding important protected characteristics in an age appropriate way, for example race, gender, disability.
This was really important learning for children to help reinforce their PSHE learning.
We were pleased to receive positive feedback from this event. One parent said, " I wanted to take this opportunity to say well done to Offham School for yesterday’s diversity talks and talk on children’s safety.
I’m so pleased that the school are supporting open conversations about identity, communities, choice, acceptance and wellbeing. I’m very pleased that the school has taken such a progressive approach."
