Homework

Homework will be sent home each Friday.

A list of spellings or 'sounds of the week' will be sent home to practice. In KS2 they will have a written test the following Friday. There will also be an optional spelling sheet for KS2.

We will also expect the children to log onto Numbots and/or TT Rockstars to complete some maths fluency practice.

Daily reading is also a very important part in your child’s learning journey. This can be reading their school reading book and/or enjoying a reading for pleasure book of their choice.

This will be sent out on Class Dojo by your class teacher on Fridays.

Remember to name your child’s property

A reminder that lost items are far more likely to return to their owners if they are clearly named! That includes any pens, pencil cases, lunch boxes etc as well as clothes.

Optional Home Learning Tasks

 1) Writing Tasks

  • Option 1: Diary of a Passenger Imagine you are a child travelling on the Empire Windrush in 1948. Write a diary entry describing:

    • What you saw on the ship (the food, the cabins, the sea).

    • How you felt leaving home and heading to a new country.

    • What you hoped life in Britain would be like.

    • Try to use adjectives and similes to bring your diary alive (e.g. “The waves were as tall as houses…”).

Option 2: Letter Home Pretend you have just arrived in Britain. Write a letter to a friend or family member back in the Caribbean. Include:
    • What surprised you about Britain (the weather, the houses, the people).

    • Something you miss from home.

    • Something exciting you’ve discovered in your new life.

    • Remember to use friendly language and sign off warmly, as if you really were writing to someone you love.

Option 3: Newspaper Report - A Big Arrival! Pretend Imagine you are a reporter in 1948. Write a short newspaper article about the arrival of the Empire Windrush at Tilbury Docks. Include:

    • A catchy headline (e.g. “New Neighbours Arrive from Afar!”).

    • Quotes from “passengers” (you can make these up).

    • A description of the scene at the docks.

    • Try to make it sound exciting and positive

2) Maths Tasks

  • Engage with some of these exciting videos on BBC Bitesize created to support in understanding some of the trickier topics that we will cover this year. These activities are great for revisiting and retrieving learning that we have covered in class but also to pre-teach for topics ahead.

3) Science - Water Transportation and the Kidneys

Kidney Heroes Poster / Presentation:

Imagine the kidneys are superheroes keeping the body safe. Create a poster or presentation showing:

  • A slogan (e.g. “Kidneys: The Body’s Clean-Up Crew!”).

Make sure you convey why the kidneys are so important.

4) Reading Practice

Choose one book, story, or article you are reading at home and complete one of the activities below:

  1. Character Detective – Pick a character and describe them in five adjectives. Explain why you chose each word.

  2. Chapter Snapshot – Write a short summary of what happened in the chapter you read. Try to use no more than 5 sentences.

  3. Creative Twist – Change one event in the story. How would this new event change the ending?

  4. Favourite Quote – Copy your favourite line or sentence. Explain why you liked it (e.g. exciting, funny, powerful).
